‘Urs at the grave of a majdhub

Question

In our area there was a majdhub (one absorbed in divine attraction). A family served him for 25/30 years. Now he has passed away. A few days after his death, self-seeking people built a shrine and began to make an income from it, and deprived those who had served him with sincerity. Now the old attendants are distressed, and the new committee, having taken possession, is holding the ‘urs (annual gathering at the grave). In these circumstances, does the self-appointed committee hold the trusteeship (tawliya)

Answer

Whoever served the majdhub for the sake of reward in the Hereafter and not for any worldly benefit — now, after his death, to make his grave a source of income is to destroy one’s own reward. Understand it by this example: someone farmed with great toil, and when the grain had ripened he set fire to it, and it was all lost.
