The side of the lahd in the grave

Question

In graves the lahd (niche) is usually dug on the side nearest the qibla. Is it permissible, out of necessity or without necessity, to dig it on the far side, or not?

Answer

It is mustahabb that the lahd be on the qibla side: [ar]وصفته أن يحفر القبر ثم يحفر في جانب القبلة منه حفيرة فيوضع فيه الميت[/ar] “Its description: the grave is dug, then on its qibla side a hollow is dug, and the deceased is placed in it” (“Shami”, p. 933, vol. 1). But if the deceased was placed facing away from the qibla (through negligence or because of some excuse)
