Who should go down into a woman’s grave

Question

May a non-mahram man go down into a woman’s grave to bury [her], or not?

Answer

It is better that a mahram go down into the grave to place the deceased. It sometimes also happens that while placing her part of the kafan comes open and a hand touches the body of the deceased. If there is no mahram, then other people of integrity and God-fearingness (taqwa) should place her in the grave.
