Writing the kalima tayyiba and the like and hanging it round the neck of the deceased
Question
People write the kalima tayyiba, the kalima of shahada and Ayat al-Kursi together with the basmala in ink and hang it round the neck of the deceased, regarding this as a meritorious act. Is it permissible to do so? Is it established by any hadith or by the statement of the jurists of the Umma?
Answer
Doing this is not established by the Sacred Law; this should never be done. In the grave, when the body of the deceased bursts and its filth gets onto what is written, the respect due to the writing is not preserved.
