The ‘ahd-nama on the shroud

Question

Is it permissible to write an ‘ahd-nama (“covenant document”) on the shroud of the deceased or not?

Answer

Writing the ‘ahd-nama is not established by the Qur’an and hadith. Some other books have permitted it, though not with ink but with the finger, and even this permission does not come from the mujtahid jurists. Therefore it is better to refrain from it as a precaution.
