Asking the Dead for Du‘a
Question
Is it correct to go to the shrines of the righteous elders of the religion and make supplication in this way: “You are a righteous servant of Allah; pray to Allah Most High concerning such-and-such troubles of ours, that Allah Most High may fulfil our need” — is this method correct or not? (2) Likewise, is it correct to supplicate thus: “O Allah, fulfil such-and-such need of ours for the sake (by the blessing) of these righteous elders,” or not? Answer
(1) Supplicating in this way is not established [in the Shari‘a]; in it these elders are addressed [with the request] to make du‘a. What is established by the Shari‘a regarding dealings with the deceased is permitted; nothing should be added to it on one’s own part. (2) This way is correct. (3)
