The Punishment of a Woman Who Said, “I Will Pluck Out the Beard Hairs and Urinate”

Question

The daughter of ‘Abd al-Ghaffar, wife of Nazar Muhammad, said to ‘Abd al-Ghaffar, “I will pluck out the hairs of your beard and urinate [on them].” And once she said to ‘Abd al-Ghaffar’s wife, “You went to Khwaja Gharib Nawaz (the honorific of the Sufi saint Mu‘in al-Din Chishti, buried at Ajmer) to have such-and-such done to you and get your lap filled.” Of what crime is such a woman guilty, and what is the punishment?

Answer

The words recorded in the question are extremely grave in the Sacred Law. There is no power to punish for them. Let the husband himself reduce his relations with such a woman: not eat food cooked by her hand, stop greeting and speaking with her, cease living together with her — until she asks forgiveness of the one to whom she said this and repents.
