Is There a Fatwa of Kufr against ‘Abd al-Wahhab Najdi?
Question
(1) The beliefs of ‘Abd al-Wahhab Najdi which Hadrat Shaykh al-Islam set out in “al-Shihab al-Thaqib” — will he be called a kafir on account of those beliefs or not? (2) The beliefs of King Ibn Sa‘ud and King Faysal were the same as those of ‘Abd al-Wahhab Najdi; what is the ruling? Have you investigated this? (3)
Answer
(1) He will not be called a kafir on account of those beliefs. For something to be wrong is one thing, and for it to be kufr is another; not every wrong thing is kufr. If someone calls a person a kafir and by the Shar‘i proofs that person is not a kafir, the word returns upon the speaker himself; so calling anyone a kafir is no trivial matter.
