Calling Someone a Kafir on Account of Grave Sins
Question
A man drinks wine, is disobedient to his parents and uses insolent words about them; he is unacquainted with knowledge of religion and regards religious matters as mockery and play; he thinks a praying man devoid of faith and says, “Such people are always in distress.” Because of domestic quarrels and greed for money he has not called his wife to him for a year, and he threatens his father with murder, showing him a knife. What is the opinion about such a person?
Answer
Such a person is a grave sinner, and there is strong fear of an evil end; may Allah the Pure have mercy. Yet even he should not be called a kafir, for the ruling of kufr is the final ruling.
