Iman Does Not Coexist with Denial of the Qur’an and Hadith
Question
Is one who denies the noble Qur’an a disbeliever? And is one who denies the prophetic hadiths a disbeliever? In the noble Qur’an it is said: [ar]مَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا[/ar] — so will denying the hadiths contradict this verse or not? Further, the noble Qur’an says: [ar]وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ[/ar] — to whom does this apply?
Answer
Hadith is the term for the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; the name “hadith” is applied also to his action and to his tacit approval. The Prophet ﷺ said: “I am the Messenger of Allah, the angel came to me with revelation; the noble Qur’an is the Book of Allah; to establish the prayer, to fast, to give zakat, to perform Hajj are the pillars of Islam” — and so on.
