Entering Paradise Merely by Reciting the Kalimah
Question
Zayd says: even though Muslims sin openly in this world and commit debauchery and transgression; even though such people pray only at some times, keep only a few fasts of blessed Ramadan, listen to sermons and admonition, yet remain heedless of the rights of people, do not discharge the shares of inheritance and set aside the command of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ — will such people, upon uttering the kalimah at the time of death, or being granted it, enter Paradise at once without suffering any punishment?
Answer
This statement of Zayd is not correct as a general rule; otherwise it would entail rejecting countless texts of the Qur’an and the Sunnah. However, with regard to one who has only just embraced Islam, upon whom the time of no act of worship has yet come and who has committed no sin after accepting iman, Zayd’s words are correct.
