The Faith of Shahrbanu bint Yazdgird

Question

What was the name of the son of the just king Anushirwan, and is it established that this son believed in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Is it established that the parents of Shahrbanu — the granddaughter of Anushirwan, who was the wife of Imam Husayn ﵁ — embraced faith? And what religion did Shahrbanu’s parents, that is the father-in-law and mother-in-law of Imam Husayn ﵁, follow?

Answer

At the battle of Qadisiyyah three daughters of the Persian king Yazdgird were taken captive. One fell to the son of Abu Bakr ﵁, and from her Qasim was born; the second to the son of ‘Umar ﵁, and from her Salim was born; the third to the son of ‘Ali ﵁, Husayn ﵁, and from her Zayn al-‘Abidin was born.
