Preaching Without Practicing Oneself

Question

What is the ruling regarding one who does not himself act upon enjoining good and forbidding evil, yet exhorts and encourages others to do so?

Answer

He is sinful for not acting accordingly himself. May Allah Most High grant success (tawfiq) to act. Preachers who deliver sermons but do not act upon them themselves — their lips will be cut with scissors of fire.
