Employing a Shi‘i to guard a graveyard
Question
Question: A person has been employed at a graveyard as a guard. Later it became known that he is a Shi‘i, but he is very honest in his dealings and guards well. The question is: is it permissible to keep such a man or not?
Answer
If no harm of any kind is feared from him, then it is right to keep him employed. If harm of some kind is feared, or there is a likelihood that he will not respect the graves of the Sunnis but will rather desecrate them, then it is not right to keep him employed. Nevertheless, if a man better than him, of sound beliefs, can be found, then keeping that man is preferable.
