Wages for slaughtering animals
Question
Question: For some reason the butchers do not slaughter the livestock themselves, but have Zayd slaughter them, paying him a fixed wage. Is it permissible and proper for Zayd to take a wage for slaughtering or not? If it is permissible, people say to Zayd: “Slaughtering hardens the heart, and the soul of the one who slaughters will be drawn out harshly; this money is permissible, but it is makruh.”
Answer
It is explicitly stated in Fatawa ‘Alamgiri that a wage for slaughtering an animal is permissible in the Shari‘a, so do not worry; and the claim that the soul of the one who slaughters will be drawn out harshly has no basis in the Shari‘a.
