The Punishment for Zina
Question
Question: A man named Zayd committed zina with a woman named Sakina. Zayd is married and has two children. Sakina is married, but the bride’s send-off to her husband’s home has not yet taken place, and a pregnancy has occurred. When questioned in the community council, the girl admitted that this pregnancy is from Zayd, and Zayd also admitted, saying: “Since the girl says so, then it is mine.” Now the question is: how should both be dealt with?
Answer
That this act is a major sin (ma‘siya kabira) is evident; both are obliged (lazim) to repent and seek forgiveness with the utmost remorse, and a strict hijab between the two is necessary, so that they can never again be in one place.
