No Gesturing from Afar Toward the Yemeni Corner
Question
During tawaf, when one is far from the Yemeni Corner (al-Rukn al-Yamani), what should be done with regard to the Yemeni Corner — should one gesture toward it? What takbir is recited when touching it from afar?
Answer
No gesture is made toward it, nor are the hands kissed; indeed, even when one is close to the Yemeni Corner, it is not kissed. [ar]واستلم الركن اليماني، وهو مندوب، لكن بلا تقبيل[/ar] “And let him touch the Yemeni Corner (istilam) — this is recommended (mandub), but without kissing” (“al-Durr al-Mukhtar” in the margin of “al-Shami”, Nu‘maniyya edition, vol. 2, p. 169).
