How to Perform the Istilam of the Black Stone from a Distance

Question

How is the istilam of the Black Stone to be performed from a distance, by pointing? What is the fatwa of the Hanafis, the Shafi‘is and the other imams? Please give the answer with references to reliable books.

If one does not get the chance to touch the Black Stone and has to perform tawaf at a distance, then, on coming opposite the Black Stone, one should raise both hands so that the palms face the Black Stone, and then kiss one’s hands, imagining that one has placed both hands on the Black Stone and kissed them; and at that time one should also say the takbir, tahmid, tahlil, and…
