Tearing Off and Bringing Back Pieces of the Kaaba’s Covering

Question

Pilgrims go to perform Hajj and bring back many goods, even beyond what they need; and some break off pieces of the covering of the Kaaba and bring them back, and some tear them off and bring them back. Are these acts permissible or not?

Answer

Breaking off and ripping off the covering of the Kaaba and bringing it back is just like there being a shirt on the body of some pious elder and breaking and ripping it off and bringing it away: this is grave disrespect, and there is by no means any permission for it.
