The Obligatory Hajj of an Afaqi through a Meccan
Question
There is a custom that, having gone on Hajj, people give some person a hundred rupees and have him perform Hajj badal (proxy Hajj) on behalf of their wife, upon whom Hajj was also fard, but the husband did not agree to take the wife with him and said, “I will have Hajj performed on your behalf as well.” That is: is the reward of Hajj obtained by giving some money and having another person perform the rites of Hajj on one’s behalf? And does the obligation of Hajj fall away or not?
Answer
In this way the obligation of Hajj will not be discharged. If the hundred rupees were given to someone deserving, the reward of giving sadaqa will be obtained.
