Performing Tawaf During Menstruation
Question
Question: Some people live with their wives in this same country; they are employees and, with great difficulty, obtain leave of only ten or twelve days, so they come for Hajj right at the appointed time. It also happens that the wife or daughter begins to menstruate. The danger of temptation (fitna) is such that one cannot leave the wife alone at the place of employment and come, and she herself is eager to come for Hajj.
Answer
Performing tawaf in a state of impurity (menstruation, post-natal bleeding — nifas, or janaba) is haram, and not regarding it as a sin is a dangerous sin. For performing tawaf al-ziyara in such a state it is wajib to give a dam of a camel or a cow. Nevertheless, despite this sin, the obligation (fard) of Hajj will be discharged.
