Sodomy under coercion
Question
What do the scholars of the religion say regarding this: before this we saw a fatwa from you dated 19 May 1971. We do not know what the claimant wrote to you, but what you wrote is: if the said person does not consider sodomy shameful (or there was some other word which I did not understand), then arrange for some good cook — and that person is me. I have repented of the sin.
Answer
Respected sir, al-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. Both the one who commits sodomy and the one who lets it be done to him are grave sinners and very great criminals; for this base act there is a very heavy evil consequence in this world and in the Hereafter; repentance (tawba) is necessary for both.
