Helping an oppressor
Question
Zayd and ‘Umar were two brothers: Zayd was a minor and ‘Umar an adult. ‘Umar paid off the debt of their father Khalid from the jointly owned land by selling land, but because Zayd was a minor his signature was not given. Now, during the consolidation of landholdings, the sold land fell to ‘Umar’s share, and Zayd was not given his share because there had been no signature. Zayd demanded: “Give me half of the present land.
Answer
Zayd and his wife are both martyrs (shahid). If ‘Umar, remorseful for his deed, has made sincere repentance and one is assured of it, then helping him is also proper.
