Sowing division in the community

Question

What is the ruling on sowing division in the community, setting people at odds, establishing a new Shari‘a, (introducing) newly invented things, and lying, slander and making accusations? And who can a person doing such things be? Kindly grant an answer.

Answer

Sowing discord for selfish ends (for the sake of wealth and power) is a major sin. Inventing a new Shari‘a in opposition to the Shari‘a brought by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is rebellion against the pure Messenger ﷺ. Lying and slander are haram. A Muslim should not even go near such deeds.
