Helping the killed and the killer

Question

Several Muslims together killed a Muslim; now some Muslims are helping the killers both in person and financially. What is the ruling regarding them, when the one killed is apparently innocent? In such a situation, should the killer be helped, or the heirs of the one killed? Please answer according to the Shari‘a.

Answer

Killing unjustly is an enormous crime; siding with injustice and helping it is also a grave sin, because of the saying of Allah the Exalted: [ar]تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ[/ar] “Help one another in righteousness and piety, but do not help one another in sin and aggression” (Surah al-Ma’ida, 5:2).
