When does the threat of Hell apply to both the killer and the killed?

Question

If a person unjustly oppresses someone, to the point that the latter becomes ready to kill him, will the one killed go to Paradise or to Hell? In what circumstances will the one killed be among the people of Hell? And the killer, in what circumstances? And where is patience permissible, and where firmness?

Answer

When two persons fight each other out of the zeal of the Jahiliyya (hamiyyat al-jahiliyya), and each is resolved to kill the other, then the threat of Hell applies to both the killer and the killed.
