Hanging a portrait of a deceased president in a hall
Question
Here there is a public organisation by the name of Anjuman-i Islamiyya (انجمن اسلامیہ, “the Islamic Society”). Its vice-president has passed away, and now the members want to hang a very large photo of him in the society’s hall (as a memorial). Is this permissible? They also want to perform, as a custom, the ceremony of the photo.
Answer
It is absolutely not permitted. The idol-worshippers originally made idols named after their elders as memorials, and then began to worship them. A photo is also an image. The angels do not enter a house in which there is an image. The image-makers will receive a very severe punishment.
