A photograph for the sake of education

Question

If a person is receiving a college education and, in order to continue his course of study at his college, he is in dire need of having a photograph taken, may he, while keeping up his college education, have the photograph taken? Please write regarding its permissibility or impermissibility according to the Shari‘a, so that the course of study may be continued.

Answer

If there is no great harm in discontinuing this education, it should be discontinued; otherwise, in order to continue it, there is latitude, out of compulsion, for the photograph as well.
