The ruling on dogs and pictures

Question

The Prophet ﷺ said that angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or pictures. So what is the status of these things? And why is a dog impure after being bathed, when the function of water is to purify?

Answer

[ar]عن طلحة قال: قال النبي ﷺ: لا تدخل الملائكة بيتا فيه كلب ولا تصاوير. متفق عليه[/ar] It is narrated from Talha ﵁: the Prophet ﷺ said: “The angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or pictures.” Agreed upon (muttafaq ʿalayh) (Mishkat al-Masabih, p. 385). Keeping a dog is not permissible, except for guarding a house, crops and livestock, and for hunting.
