The blessing sign over the name of a person called Muhammad

Question

Question: Many people whose name is Muhammad write, with the word “Muhammad” or “Ahmad”, the abbreviation of “صلعم”, i.e. the sign (ص), although it is specific to the Prophet ﷺ. Kindly inform us whether this is permissible or not.

Answer

For one whose name is Muhammad, or who has Muhammad in his name, salawat (blessings) is neither recited nor written over it, nor is there any command to do so; rather, salawat is for the Prophet ﷺ. Those who, in such a place where the word “Muhammad” is not the name of the Prophet ﷺ, put the sign (ص)
