The name Rabbani

Question: May a child be named Rabbani (ربانی)?

Answer

Naming him Rabbani is correct; its translation is “one belonging to Allah.” However, it is better and preferable to give a name in accordance with the names of the prophets, and after that a name that contains the word “‘abd” (servant) annexed to one of the names of Allah, such as ‘Abd al-Rahman (عبد الرحمن), ‘Abd al-Rahim (عبد الرحيم), and the like.
