Changing one’s lineage
Question
Question: A man added the word “Khan” at the end of his name, although by his family he is not a Khan. If, on account of a severe hardship, a person changes his lineage, that is, changes the names of his father and grandfather and attributes himself to someone other than his father — for example, someone has to go to London and does not have his own passport, but rather has another person’s passport, and according to that passport he changed his father’s name, accepted the other person’s father as his own father…
Answer
Attributing oneself to anyone other than one’s own father is haram. In the noble hadith a severe threat (wa‘id) has come regarding this vile act: Paradise has been declared forbidden to such a person.
