Changing lineage: are Indian Muslims’ claims to Arab descent true?
Question
Question: When the Muslims came to India for the sake of the religion, who exactly came? And did those who came, after calling to the religion, stay in India or go back? If all of them went back, then all the scholars of India are new Muslims, and the claim of all who are called Sayyid, Qurayshi, Ansari, Faruqi, ‘Uthmani or Shaykh is false, and all of them, whether religious scholars or ignorant, have changed their lineage — and changing lineage is haram.
Answer
In the time of Muhammad ibn Qasim a Muslim army came here, and in it were members of various families and tribes. Some families remained here permanently. After that too numerous households came and adopted their residence here.
