Obedience to an elderly father

Question

If the father or grandfather is old and the children are grown up, and the children do not obey their commands, what is the ruling concerning them?

Answer

It is binding (lazim) upon the children to obey the father’s command, especially when they are old and frail, for then obedience to them and honouring them is all the more necessary. If they too command something contrary to the Shari‘a, there is no obedience in that.
