Disobedience to parents

Question: What is the ruling on one who disobeys his parents?

Answer

One who disobeys his parents in permissible matters is a grave sinner. [ar]عن المغيرة ﵁ قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: «حرم عليكم عقوق الأمهات» الحديث.[/ar] Al-Mughira ﵁ narrated: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Undutifulness (ʿuquq) to mothers has been forbidden to you…’” — the hadith (Mishkat al-Masabih). [ar]«ومن أصبح عاصيًا لله في والديه أصبح له بابان مفتوحان من النار» الحديث.
