The grievous consequence of tormenting one’s father
Question
Because of Zayd’s company my son has become disobedient to me and torments me. I obtained many fatwas and read them out to him so that he might reform, but he does not desist from his conduct. Please give a fatwa about this too: what is the ruling of Allah and the Messenger regarding such a son?
Answer
The father’s right is very great: through serving the father and through his pleasure, the pleasure of Allah the Pure and Paradise are attained, and when the father is angered, Allah Most High is angered. Tormenting the father and causing him pain is a grievous deprivation; its evil consequence has to be suffered both in this world and in the Hereafter.
