Making amends for wrongs done to one’s wife
Question
Question: The questioner mentioned some domestic events and then wrote: “At times I would lose control of myself in anger towards my wife, and when I became angry I would even hit her. Thus one day I hit my child, and my wife objected — and I slapped her too, which I will regret all my life, for this falls under the rights of people (huquq al-ʿibad).
Answer
The wrong done to your late wife can be made up for in this way: pray for her forgiveness, and by offering nafl prayers, reciting the Qur’an and giving sadaqa, convey the reward (thawab) to her. Bring up her children well — in sha’ Allah ta‘ala, things will be set right.
