Trading with mixed wealth
Question
Question: A permissible trade in which unlawful wealth has been invested predominantly and lawful wealth in the minority — if a lawful occupation is started with it, what is the ruling on the income of such a trade? May it be spent on good causes or not?
Answer
Because of the mixing (khalt), ownership is established; the trade will be valid and its income will be halal, so spending it on good causes will also be permissible. Compensation (daman) for the original unlawful wealth will, however, be obligatory.
