Buying something with unlawful wealth
Question
Question: A man has unlawful wealth which he received from a buyer for selling some lawful thing. Now, if this man buys a horse on a week’s credit, brings the horse to his home, and hands over the unlawful wealth a week later, is the horse permissible or not?
Answer
Selling a lawful thing in exchange for unlawful wealth is not permissible, because of the words of Allah Most High: [ar]وَلَا تَتَبَدَّلُوا۟ ٱلْخَبِيثَ بِٱلطَّيِّبِ[/ar] “And do not exchange the bad for the good” (Surah al-Nisa’, 4:2).
