Does sorcery still exist today?

Question

Question: It is narrated from Imam Malik ﵀, Imam Muhammad ﵀ and our companions (ashab) that the sorcerer (sahir) is a kafir. And Ibn al-Humam writes in “Fath al-Qadir”: [ar]السحر حرام بلاخوف والمستفاد إباحة كفر[/ar] “Sorcery (sihr) is haram without fear (?), and its derived (?) permissibility is kufr.” Sorcery was also worked on Muhammad ﷺ. Looking at all the statements, it becomes clear that sorcery still exists.

Answer

Eradicating sorcery does not mean that it was annihilated from the world; the purpose is to make clear that sorcery is an evil thing and that complete avoidance of it is necessary. The same is the case with kufr: the purpose of eradicating it is also to make clear its vileness and evil, and to strive against it as far as possible.
