Can jinn and devils torment a human being?

Question: Zayd’s wife is very distressed; she often says, “I am one of the jinn.” Do jinn and devils really take hold of human beings? Has anything of this kind come anywhere in the pure Shari‘a?

Answer

It is possible for a jinn and a devil to enter a human being: [ar]إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَجْرِي مِنَ الْإِنْسَانِ مَجْرَى الدَّمِ[/ar] “Indeed, Satan flows in a human being where the blood flows” — hadith (Sahih al-Bukhari). Details of this are related in “Akam al-Marjan fi Ahkam al-Jann”.
