Birth control
Question
On account of some need — for example, the wife is weak or the child is very small — may one practise birth control by means of medicines or not? In the newspaper “Qaumi Awaz” (“The Voice of the Nation”, Lucknow) dated 21 February 1961 there is news that the scholars of Pakistan have declared birth control permissible.
Answer
I have not seen this newspaper, nor have I seen the fatwa from Pakistan. If the wife is so weak that there is fear of her perishing from childbirth, then adopting such temporary measures by which conception does not take place until strength returns is correct (permissible).
