Using contraceptive medicine
Question
A man’s wife, because of the large number of children and because of various illnesses and hardships during the days of pregnancy, wants to use contraceptive medicine, and her husband also agrees. Is it permissible in such a case to use such medicine? Moreover, four children are alive, and after them five children were born, all of whom died.
Answer
It is permissible. However, the thought of hardship and poverty must be removed from the heart, because it is a bad opinion of Allah Most High — that He will not provide sustenance for the children — whereas He provides sustenance for all. On account of other reasons, such as illness and the like, doing so with the husband’s permission is correct (permissible).
