A particular case of treatment with what is prohibited

Question

It has become known from the words of several people that when a mare gives birth, a piece of flesh is cut off and falls from its mouth, which is thought to be part of the tongue. By grinding this piece and giving it to drink, relief is obtained from several illnesses. So it is asked: is it permissible to give it to a patient to drink as medicine or not?

Answer

This incident has not been verified; however, its tongue that is cut off and falls is carrion and haram. If a religious expert practitioner prescribes that recovery from such-and-such an illness is confined to a haram thing and that a cure cannot be obtained in any other way, then, out of compulsion and to the extent of need, it is correct (permissible) to use such a medicine.
