Making giving up wine conditional on another giving up preaching

Question

A young man drinks wine and urinates standing. His relatives are disciples of a Sayyid, a perfect spiritual guide. When the shaykh came to their house and learned of his drinking wine and not praying, he admonished him in the presence of his disciples and his family, and told the family to keep his utensils and the like separate until he desists from this evil act. At this the boy behaved rudely and said to the guide: “If you give up your preaching and admonishing, I will give up drinking wine.

Answer

Making it a condition for giving up wine that the guide give up preaching and admonition is a wrong and unworkable condition. Allah the Pure has forbidden wine, and the Messenger of Allah Most High ﷺ cursed the drinking of wine; in the religion of Islam its punishment is severe.
