Wine or Opium for a Human or an Animal
Question
Question: What is the ruling on giving a human or an animal wine or opium as medicine? If there is a distinction between a small and a large amount, please write it.
Answer
Wine, whether little or much, is simply haram: it should be given neither to a human nor to an animal. If the illness is such that a skilled, religious physician states that there is no treatment for it other than wine, then, out of necessity, as medicine, to the extent of need, there is permission.
