The ruling on lion fat

Question

Question: A certain ointment is made from lion fat and the like. What is the ruling on using it? Or what is the ruling on praying while it is applied? How should one pray while it is applied?

Answer

An ointment made from the impure fat of carrion (mayta) is impure. If the prescription of a skilled and God-fearing physician is that the cure lies solely in it, then a prayer performed under compulsion while it remains applied is valid. While the properties and effects of the fat remain in it and its very substance (jirm) is also present, it can be declared pure (?).
