Keeping a dog

What is the ruling on keeping a dog? I have heard that the angels of goodness do not come where there is a dog. And with what intention should one keep it?

Answer

It is true that the angels of goodness do not come where there is a dog. Therefore one should not keep a dog. But if there is a need for guarding a house, crops or animals, or for hunting, then there is no harm in keeping a dog. [ar]وفي الأجناس: ولا ينبغي أن يتخذ كلبًا إلا أن يخاف من اللصوص أو غيرهم.
