Did Hazrat Thanawi Have a Kalima Recited with His Own Name?
Question
Hazrat Mawlana Ashraf ‘Ali Thanawi had a kalima recited with his own name: namely, one of his special disciples wrote him a letter: “I am asleep; in the dream I am reciting the kalima, in which, instead of ‘Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah’, I am pronouncing Your Honour’s name, that is, ‘Ashraf ‘Ali is the Messenger of Allah’.
Answer
Hazrat Mawlana Thanawi did say — and you yourself have quoted it — that the meaning is that the one whose follower you are is a follower of the Sunna. Reflect on this answer: can a person who is a follower of the Sunna lay claim to prophethood?
