A Dream in Which “There Is No God but Allah, So-and-so Is the Messenger of Allah” Was Recited

Question

If a person, instead of the kalima “There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah” (لا إله إلا الله محمد رسول الله), recites “There is no god but Allah, Ashraf ‘Ali is the Messenger of Allah” (لا إله إلا الله أشرف علي رسول الله), will he remain a Muslim or become a kafir? Further, what kind of sinner is the one who recites this kalima in order to mislead Muslims, and what is the expiation (kaffara) for slander?

Answer

The Most Sacred Prophet, the Messenger of Allah Muhammad ﷺ, is the Seal of the Messengers (khatam al-rusul). Whoever regards anyone after him as a messenger is a kafir. This is the unanimous belief of all the Ahl al-Sunna wa-l-Jama‘a — indeed, of all the people of Islam.
